I was asked recently whether a client is better off obtaining advice from a big firm of solicitors or a small firm.
I am biased because I run a small firm and am usually up against solicitors employed by big insurance companies.
In my experience big does not mean better and does not result in a better result.
On the contrary, small firms are invariably owned by one or two solicitors rather than professional managers or representatives of a private company, who want to have their investment repaid as quickly as possible for the largest sum.
Small firms live and die by their legal reputation. Solicitors are prepared to work long hours to get the very best results for their clients. I, and solicitors like me, have a calling to work for injured people. It is what I do. When someone has been hurt, I want to get them the best treatment, the best rehabilitation, the best award of damages. The quality of legal advice is high and the personal touch really important.
